The 2025 film Predator: Badlands is a major expansion of the Predator franchise, directed by Dan Trachtenberg (Prey), which shifts the perspective entirely away from human protagonists. The story centers on Dek, a young, smaller Predator (Yautja) who is unfairly branded the "runt" of his clan by his father and faces execution on the homeworld, Yautja Prime. To prove his worth and earn his honor, Dek escapes to the remote and deadly planet Genna, a.k.a. the "Death Planet," with the singular goal of hunting and killing the Kalisk, a colossal, near-mythical apex predator considered unkillable even by his father's fierce warriors.
On the hostile alien planet, Dek finds himself in a desperate fight for survival that forces him into an unlikely partnership with Thia (Elle Fanning), a cheerful, half-destroyed synthetic (android) from the ruthless Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Thia's team was destroyed by the Kalisk, and she joins Dek's mission for her own reasons, often strapped to the back of the young Predator as a "tool" as they navigate the dangerous landscape.
The film is a thrilling, action-packed sci-fi adventure that is ultimately a heartfelt story about a Predator rejecting his species' toxic code of honor and forming a powerful, emotional bond with his synthetic ally as they face corporate hunters and his own relentless family.
