Traditionally, men have paid to take women out on a date, but times have changed somewhat. Women may earn as much as men if not more. Men may still feel obligated to pick up the check regardless. There are women that take offense to such notions. Typically, it is the man that asks the woman to go out and he'll usually choose the venue. Etiquette often requires that a man pay for the date under such circumstances. Even if a woman invites a man to accompany her somewhere and he accepts, either due to perception or the inherited role as a man, most men that leave the woman with the bill are considered bad guys.

In heterosexual relationships, who should pay for the first date?

  • Man
  • Woman
  • Both
  • The person who asks
