Can a relationship with your ex work?

Breaking up is an emotionally taxing ordeal to endure for some people, especially if the relationship was very serious. If it were a marriage and a child or children were involved, many people would feel it's worth trying to rekindle the flame. Relationships end for many reasons, some as simple as incompatibility and some as complex as infidelity. In the world of romance, sometimes things go awry, and you find yourself single again: back at square one. If you both choose to part ways, it may not be as confusing or painful as when someone breaks up with you and you didn't see it coming.

Some people may reconnect due to lingering feelings. If only one of you truly has feelings, then you may be the one that's vulnerable. You may have to assess whether or not you are actually reconnecting or just hooking up. There are many things that must be taken into consideration. Narcissistic personalities and other mental instabilities tend to drive people away. Drug and/or alcohol use could have played a role in the relationship ending. Whether or not someone has overcome addiction could be a determining factor in whether or not someone is willing to give it another try.
