Do you think the Atlanta Dream can win a championship with Angel Reese?

Posted 4/12/2026

In WNBA news, the Atlanta Dream acquired Angel Reese via trade this off-season. The Dream finished first in the Eastern Conference last year with a record of 30-14 but lost to the Indiana Fever in the playoffs. Head coach Karl Smesko is looking to improve with the addition of Reese. Reese holds the record for the longest single-season double-double streak at 15 games and became the first player in WNBA history to record multiple streaks of 10+ consecutive double-doubles. This may go a long way in helping Allisha Gray, who lead the team in scoring by averaging 18.4 points per game, and Rhyne Howard, who averaged 17.5 points per game last season. With the absence of veteran center Brittney Griner, who was inking a deal with the Connecticut Sun at the time of this post, Reese will be looking to fill some big shoes.

Since their establishment in 2008, the Atlanta Dream have appeared in three WNBA Finals (2010, 2011, and 2013) but have yet to win one. Standing in Atlanta's way this season are not only the WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, with a fearsome A'ja Wilson playing lights out, but also the Indiana Fever and several others. The Aces have won three of the last four championships, and, as mentioned earlier, the Dream fell to the Fever in the first round, 2-1, and the Fever were without Caitlin Clark - one of the biggest names in the game. With Clark making her return and star Aliyah Boston, the Fever will be difficult to stop.

This off-season, the WNBA and the players reached a deal under a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The salary cap will start at $7 million (up from $1.5 million in 2025), with the supermax starting at $1.4 million (was $249,244 in 2025). The average salary will be around $600,000 ($120,000 in 2025), with the minimum salary surpassing $300,000 ($66,079 in 2025). Reese was famously quoted for saying that she wouldn't be able to afford her rent without the endorsements she has. Click Here. The WNBA season is set to get underway May 8, 2026.
