California State Senator Scott Wiener has proposed legislation for all new cars sold in the state in 2027 to have technology which makes it more difficult to speed. When he first drafted his bill, he wanted "speed governors" on new cars but faced fierce push back. More than likely, the cost will be passed on to consumers. He suggests Intelligent Speed Assistance Systems - a complex piece of technology that uses GPS, cameras, and a few other gizmos to make it physically impossible for vehicles to go 10 miles per hour over the posted speed. There has been no word on how visitors to the state will be affected by the law if it is passed. Speeding does increase the likelihood of a traffic accident causing serious injuries or being fatal. Yet, carmakers are churning out cars yearly that travel as fast as 160 mph, or faster.

Should drivers be forced to have devices installed on their car to ensure they comply with speed limits?
