There have already been laws passed in several states granting the right to marry homosexual and lesbian couples. There are those that hold dear to the belief that marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. Some also believe that the union between lesbian and gay couples should be redefined or not allowed at all. Lesbian and gay couples have similar concerns as heterosexual couples regarding Social Security benefits, entitlements to retirement benefits in the event their loved one dies, and the tax benefits of being married. A lot of lesbian and gay couples also co-parent and have concerns for the well-being of their children in the event the relationship is dissolved.
