Corporal punishment is physical discipline that may typically be administered by parents in the form of a spanking to correct inappropriate behavior in children. Child abuse is regarded as hitting children with objects or striking them out of anger with a retaliatory intent. Correction is thought to be removed from the equation at that point. However, as adults, we all have the threat of violence looming over us if we misbehave. When police officers give orders to citizens, there is usually a threat associated with it. The phrase "or else" is often echoed by authority figures. It may be hypocritical to impose regulations on a parent disciplining their child physically when society uses the same tactics.
