Bronny James is the eldest son of future Hall of Famer and four-time NBA champion LeBron "King" James. He was selected in the second round with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers—a move many speculate was influenced heavily by his father's role in the organization. Former Laker player Kwame Brown openly criticized the selection, claiming nepotism allowed Bronny to take a roster spot from more deserving candidates. Bronny has now been sent back to the G-League's Coachella Valley Lakers after playing only five games for the 2026-27 season, averaging 0.8 ppg. His career stats aren't that great either. After 74 games, he's averaged 2.5 ppg and one assist per game. Bronny James plays the point guard/shooting guard position which requires the ability to facilitate scoring for other players and they must be able to score themselves. They must also possess strong ball handling skills, run the team's offense, and have a high IQ for the game as they are deemed the "coach on the floor."
Bronny James is listed at 6'2" and 210 lbs. He has to stack up skill-wise with several high-impact NBA guards, three of whom have won championships, including:
Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors)
Kyrie Irving (Dallas Mavericks)
Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks)
Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers)
Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers)
Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers)
Ja Morant (Portland Trail Blazers)
C.J. McCollum (Atlanta Hawks)
While transitioning from the G-League to a permanent NBA rotation is difficult, proven success stories like Alex Caruso, Fred VanVleet, and Danny Green show that a path forward exists. It is a grueling process and the competition is fierce.
Legendary NBA player Michael Jordan played baseball in the minor leagues because he wasn't major league material, and he wasn't coddled into a delusion that he was. Due to his fame, popularity, and the adoration of people in the city of Chicago, he was granted a spot with the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the White Sox, where he played the 1994 season. Similarly, the deep admiration Los Angeles Lakers fans hold for LeBron James—who delivered a championship to the city in 2020—undoubtedly played a role in Bronny securing his contract in Los Angeles. With hard work and dedication, Bronny James could prove his critics wrong and return based on athletic merit.
