The 2025 film The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a non-traditional reboot for the MCU, set in an alternate, visually distinct, retro-futuristic 1960s on Earth-828. The story begins with the Fantastic Four—Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing)—already established superheroes and national icons. The plot quickly raises the stakes when Reed and Sue announce they are expecting their first child, Franklin, whose immense, latent cosmic power instantly becomes the focus of the galaxy.
The celebrations are cut short by the arrival of the Silver Surfer, herald to the planet-devourer Galactus. After tracking Galactus into space, the team learns his horrifying deal: he will spare Earth from being consumed only if the Richards' surrender their unborn child, whose unique power he senses could free him from his endless hunger. Forced to make an impossible choice between saving their family and saving the world, the team rejects the ultimatum. The film then becomes a high-stakes race against Galactus's impending arrival on Earth, testing the bonds of the 'First Family' as they fight to protect their child and their planet from a villain of truly cosmic scale.
