Was 'Wicked: For Good' a good movie?

Posted 11/21/2025

The 2025 film Wicked: For Good is the second part of the cinematic adaptation of the iconic stage musical, directed by Jon M. Chu and continuing the story of the witches of Oz. The main cast returns, led by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.

The film picks up after the events of Wicked (2024), finding the two former best friends estranged. Elphaba, now demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile as a fugitive, hidden in the Ozian forests while she secretly continues her fight for the rights of the animals against the corrupt regime of The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum). Meanwhile, Glinda has fully embraced her role as the public symbol of goodness, living in the palace and serving as the glamorous spokeswoman for The Wizard, under the instruction of Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh).

As Glinda prepares for her high-profile wedding to Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), she is haunted by the split with Elphaba and attempts to broker a reconciliation with The Wizard. These efforts fail, driving the friends further apart and setting off a chain of events that transforms Boq into the Tin Man and forces Fiyero into a desperate act to save Elphaba, which transforms him into the Scarecrow. The arrival of Dorothy Gale from Kansas, whose house crushes Elphaba's sister Nessarose, precipitates the final confrontation. With an angry mob rising against the Wicked Witch, Elphaba and Glinda must come together one last time to save each other, confront the powerful corruption in Oz, and redefine the true meaning of "good" before their fates are permanently sealed.
