Normal, released in early 2026, is a high-concept action thriller directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Derek Kolstad, the creator of the John Wick franchise. The film stars Tyrese Gibson as Ulysses, a mysterious outsider who is appointed as the substitute sheriff in the seemingly tranquil town of "Normal" after the previous lawman dies under suspicious circumstances.
However, the town’s welcoming facade quickly crumbles as Ulysses discovers that the community is built on a foundation of deep-seated criminal secrets. When he realizes that the townspeople are not looking for a protector but a complicit figurehead, he is forced to use his hidden, lethal skills to dismantle a vast conspiracy, turning the quiet streets into a tactical battlefield.
The film's ensemble cast features Ray Liotta (in one of his final posthumous appearances), Enuka Okuma, and Shakira Barrera, providing a gritty supporting framework for the escalating violence. Wheatley, known for his distinct blend of dark humor and visceral action, utilizes a stylized, neo-noir aesthetic to heighten the tension of the small-town setting.
Ulysses’ journey from a wandering stranger to a one-man army serves as a relentless examination of justice and the cost of breaking a corrupt status quo. By combining the kinetic pacing of a modern "gun-fu" thriller with the atmospheric dread of a classic Western, Normal delivers a brutal and engaging cinematic experience that questions what truly lies beneath the surface of an ordinary life.
