Was 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' a good movie?

Posted 12/19/2025

The highly anticipated third film in James Cameron's Avatar saga, officially titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, continues the central story of the Sully family, led by Sam Worthington as the Marine-turned-Na'vi leader Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña as the fierce Na'vi warrior Neytiri. This installment dramatically expands the world-building by introducing a brand-new Na'vi tribe: the Ash People (or Mangkwan clan). These inhabitants of volcanic regions are distinctly different from the Omaticaya and Metkayina, characterized by director James Cameron as a more aggressive and warlike clan, revealing a previously unseen, morally complex side of the Na'vi. The Ash People are led by the formidable new character Varang (played by Oona Chaplin).

The central dilemma will intensify the struggle between the Na'vi resistance, anchored by Jake and Neytiri, and the returning human forces of the RDA. The film is expected to feature the Sully family confronting the Ash People, who may even form a dangerous alliance with the familiar human antagonist, Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). Adding a fresh perspective, the narrative is rumored to shift its focus, with the couple's second son, Lo'ak (Britain Dalton), taking over as the story's narrator. This sequel will blend high-stakes action with the emotional fallout from the previous battle, as Jake and Neytiri's relationship is reportedly placed under immense strain by the grief of their recent loss, forcing them to survive both external threats and internal divisions.
