Some of the food that we consume contain ingredients that most people can't pronounce, let alone identify, unless they have a PHD in chemistry. The label on a pack of corn chips says the product contains corn maltodextrin, hydrolyzed corn glutamate, potassium salt, malic acid, disodium inosinate, and disodium guanylate among other things. It's also frightening to think about what effects these additives have on our bodies. It's becoming increasingly important to read the label. The corn chips weren't just corn chips at all. The chips did contain corn and vegetable oil as one might expect, but they included all this other stuff as well. Most marketing isn't completely honest. Deception is a tactic used by those we normally don't regard as good people. Orange juice in the store may be marked 100% juice until you take a closer look and see that the juice is from concentrate. Concentrated juice isn't just juice concentrated. The juice is taken from the fruit, processed in a manner that strips most of the nutrients from it, and then it is loaded with sweeteners, preservatives, and other artificial ingredients. At that point, it's more of a juice by-product. There are foods made with pork that people are totally unaware of - cereal, ice cream, chewing gum, yogurt, cream cheese, wine, and the list goes on. "Organic" and "non-GMO" may be confusing terms as well. Believe us, they are quite confusing. We researched the topic for some time, and we are more confused now than when we were going in. The term "organic" may have you under the impression that your vegetables were grown without the use of pesticides, but that isn't true. The pesticides used must be "USDA approved" if that gives you any comfort. You may believe that "organic" implies that food has no genetically modified organisms (GMO's) which isn't true either.
