Terence Crawford is coming off a victory over Israil Madrimov, a unanimous decision that went 12 rounds back in August of 2024. Crawford won the WBA junior middleweight title, which was a great accomplishment with it being his first fight in the division. However, Canelo Alvarez is in a totally different league. He presents many problems that Crawford may not be prepared to deal with even though Crawford claims his weight is up to 186 pounds. Some people have said that Terence Crawford is not ready for such an opponent, especially with it being his first bout at super middleweight against a fighter with so much experience. Crawford is jumping two weight classes to take on Alvarez. Alvarez has competed in 66 professional fights, winning 62 of them with 39 by way of knockout. To his credit, Crawford has had 41 fights and has a 4" reach advantage, but Crawford is three years older than Alvarez. Alvarez is also a natural super middleweight and holds 3 of the 4 belts in that class. Alvarez will fight another opponent in May, William Scull, despite the fight that is scheduled against Crawford on September 13, 2025. Doesn't seem as if Alvarez considers Crawford a serious threat when you take that into consideration.
