Rape is a horrible and demeaning crime. Law enforcement encourages rape victims to contact the authorities immediately. However, this doesn't always happen for several reasons. Rape victims sometimes place the blame on themselves or may feel ashamed about what happened. When a wealthy and or powerful person is the alleged perpetrator, many victims feel a sense of futility in pressing charges. Some victims may be extremely afraid of their attackers as well. In the case of Sean Combs, or P. Diddy, his former girlfriend, Cassie, received an undisclosed sum of money for abuse she claims she endured at the hands of the music mogul for years. There are rumors the payout was as much as 30 million dollars. A disturbing video surfaced from 2016 where Cassie was brutally assaulted by Diddy, corroborating some of what she said. Accusers began to come forward after Diddy settled the lawsuit with Cassie. Click here
The only thing that the accusers all have in common, however, is that they haven't pressed charges but have all been seeking money which brings their credibility into question. Even Cassie hasn't pressed any charges. The only entity to press charges thus far has been the FBI. After raids on Diddy's Miami and New York homes, he was later arrested for racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution - all very serious charges. In the case of Bill Cosby, a Pennsylvania court overturned his conviction for a rape Andrea Constand said took place almost 20 years prior. Bill Cosby went to prison based on that accusation. Afterwards, a litany of accusers suddenly came forward filing civil suit after civil suit. Lawyers for Diddy described the accusations as a "money grab". But then again, look at all of the people not being accused of these crimes.
